June 12, 2026 - June 24, 2026 Closed Sundays

Ms. Lin Mingjun was born in Fujian Province, China. After graduating from Minzu University of China, she completed the master's course at Tama Art University and is currently working on the doctor's course at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts. She won the Showakai Award at Showakai Exhibition in 2024, which was the first occasion in 60 years of its history where a foreign artist won the best award and it was also unusual for a Japanese-style painting to win such award. It drew a lot of attention.

Ms. Lin has explored her unique and modern expressions by using the traditional ink painting method. At this first solo show for Showakai Award winning, she set the theme of "boxes." She considers the world, body and also ego as one box and elaborates to express the existences which go "inside" and "outside" through snails, birds and tetrapod with the folding screen as the main axis which represents the structure of such boxes and the ambiguous spaces which are created in between. Please enjoy her new works that focus on "inside" and "outside" spaces that are extended to the relation of individuals and society, ego and others and moreover internal division of self.
