Morikazu Kumagai

Kumagai Morikazu graduated from the Western course of painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. It was his first time to be chosen by Japan Arts Exhibition on 1908, and the next year he was commended with his artwork "Candle". On 1916, Kumagai Morikazu officially became a member of Nika Art Exhibition. During the time from 1947 to 1951, he had been one of the initiate of Niki-Kai Exhibition. In his realism painting, there exists Expressionism. Kumagai Morika painted the scenery, animals, and plants in daily life with minimalism style and bright colors. He also sketched the objects with lines, creating an unique composition. Although he was commended with Order of Culture, he declined it humbly. Kumagai Morika has been a dominating figure in Japanese painting world and also has lots of followers. After he passed away, there established Kumagai Morikazu Memorial Art Museum in Gifu Prefecture and also Morikazu Kumagai Museum in Tokyo, Japan.
