Kazu Wakita
1908, born in Tokyo, Japan.
2005, died in Tokyo, Japan.

WAKITA Kazu went to Berlin to study at the age of 15. He graduated from Berlin University of the Arts in 1930 and went back to Japan. WAKITA joined the army in 1943, and left a great amount of sketch works when being delegated to Manila. Unfortunately, his studio did not survive from the air raid, and the works made before war time were almost entirely gone, forcing him to start his artistic career all over again. WAKITA traveled several times to Europe, India, the Middle East, Africa, and Central America. His works reveal a romantic atmosphere and surrealistic style that is rarely seen within the Japanese art scene.
