Takanori Ishizuka
1970 Born in Kanagawa, Japan
Lives and works in Yokohama, Japan

Ishizuka began his career as a painter, however in the past few years he energetically creates wooden sculptures at the same time, and has exhibited widely in Japan and abroad. Strongly influenced by Japanese mythologies, folklore, as well as satirical caricatures and woodblock prints, Takanori Ishizuka creates small, adorable yet bizarre wooden creatures full of life with their vivid and varied facial expressions that communicate the world surrounding the artist and his feelings. They also tend to depict the lifestyle of contemporary human being. Whether they are strange beasts residing in the forest, or rare animals wandering in the deep blue sea, all of them show similar love and hatred as well as physical and physiological needs that may arouse an echo in our heart.
