Showa Kai Exhibition is an open call competition for emerging artists which was first launched in 1965 by Tokushichi Hasegawa, current president of Galerie Nichido. The purpose of this event is to raise emerging artists and to encourage them to enter the art industry. Opening the competition to participants from Taiwan for the first time, we wish to guide more emerging artists in paving their way towards the art world.

The event is held every year at Galerie Nichido (Tokyo) in the form of an exhibition where the participating artists present the works submitted which are then further selected by a special committee. The committee will choose the competition winners through a review of the works on view assigning the four awards offered, Showa Kai Award, Tokyo Marine & Nichido Award, New York Award and Paris Award.
