In recent years, more and more young Japanese people are starting to participate in various art events. In addition to touring around art galleries in Japan or abroad, they have also embarked on a journey of art collecting. Earlier this March, when our contemporary art branch in Tokyo nca | nichido contemporary art was showing artist Chih-Hung Liu’s solo exhibition, Japanese media Nikkei visited our gallery for a special interview and invited director Sachiko Iwase and Daisuke Miyatsu, Collector and Professor of Yokohama Art University, to share their thoughts about the importance of art galleries as well as their observations of current art fairs. Daisuke Miyatsu discussed his views on art collecting by explaining the work he has collected in the show, and also by sharing his decades of personal experience on art collecting.

As mentioned in the interview, the most rewarding thing about collecting contemporary art is that you are not only supporting the artist, but also interacting and growing together with them, discovering brand new experiences that you have otherwise never encountered before. galerie nichido is grateful to having been able to build friendships with many people who are passionate in collecting contemporary art since the beginning of our contemporary branch. We hope to adhere to our initial belief, and explore the infinite possibilities of contemporary art together with our artists, collector friends, and art lovers from our generation.
