Kasama Nichido Museum of Art is founded in 1972 by the first generation of galerie nichido. Till this present day, the museum continues to organize various exhibitions for the hope to spread the beauty of art. The inspiration for this exhibition “Self-Portraits by Painters”is from the idea that self-portraits has always been an important material for understanding an artist`s philosophy towards life and art. However, by no means can a self-portrait show precisely the reflection of the artists` silhouette. Eventually, self-portrait is always about the inner-conversation of one self, therefore the final work could be seen more as an expression of spirituality then a representation of appearance.

In this exhibition, Kasama Nichido Museum of Art presents around 60 self-portraits from masters throughout the world in hoping to invite visitors to study not only the different faces of the artists, but also their personality and artistic essence hidden beneath.
