We are pleased to introduce Ms. Yuka Machida's solo show of new pieces. It is a large presentation opportunity after seven years since the memorial exhibition of the Showakai Award winning in 2017. Ms. Machida made her brilliant debut by winning a grand prix at the 1st Miraiten Exhibition and Tokyo Marine Nichido Award at the 50th Showakai Exhibition in the following year being a student at Musashino Art University.
What she paints are portraits of people with roving eyes and melancholy face which give the viewers a strong impression. She has pursued expression of the inner self since her award winning, but she seems to eventually begin recognizing the relation of "counterparts" which mean the self among the relationship with others, resulting in the theme of this exhibition "Certainly Uncertain."

      ―― By more than two people recognizing each other through their respective "prejudices," the characteristics are given and the outlines of their existences rise.

      I wanted to express "uncertain existence of an individual" seen by accumulating gaps of prejudices held by each person which make them see even the same person in different ways. ――
